The **Kuss Quartet** is a Berlin-based string quartet known for their innovative, concept-driven programming and deep commitment to both traditional and contemporary classical music. Founded in 1991 by violinists Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler," the ensemble has maintained its current lineup since 2008 with violist William Coleman and cellist Mikayel Hakhnazaryan. They have earned a reputation for adventurous performances, including collaborations with other artists and incorporating elements like dance, poetry, and world music into their concerts. The quartet has also premiered many new works by leading contemporary composers, expanding the string quartet repertoire.
A highlight of their career includes being the first German string quartet to play on the legendary “Paganini Quartet” Stradivari instruments, a unique project culminating in a complete Beethoven string quartet cycle recorded live at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. The Kuss Quartet has received numerous prestigious awards such as first prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani competition and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust support. They have performed widely across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, making frequent appearances at major venues like the Royal Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Carnegie Hall. Their adventurous spirit and dedication to chamber music continue to earn them critical acclaim and a devoted following.
