Donnie Brooks

Donnie Brooks, born John Dee Abohosh on February 6, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, was an American pop music singer with rockabilly roots. He moved to Ventura, California, in his teens and began his music career under various stage names, including Johnny Jordan, Dick Bush, and Johnny Faire. As Johnny Faire, he gained some success with the single "Bertha Lou." However, it was under the name Donnie Brooks that he achieved his most notable success. His 1960 single "Mission Bell" became a major hit, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Another notable release was "Doll House," which reached No. 31 on the charts. Brooks continued to perform and produce music throughout his career, including roles in rock operas and oldies revival tours. He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2003 and passed away on February 23, 2007.

Brooks' contributions to music extended beyond his own performances. He produced recordings for artists like Merrilee Rush, Cannibal & the Headhunters, Len Barry, and Jewel Akens. Additionally, he sang themes for cartoon series such as "George of the Jungle," "Super Chicken," and "Tom Slick." His legacy as a singer and producer remains significant in the history of American pop and rockabilly music.
