Rita Brent is a multi-talented comedian, musician, and military veteran hailing from Jackson, Mississippi. She grew up immersed in music, playing drums alongside her mother, a singer-pianist, in Baptist churches. By 18, she joined the Army National Guard, serving as a drummer in the 41st Army Band and eventually becoming a sergeant. After graduating from Jackson State University, she worked in radio broadcasting and spent six years at Mississippi Public Broadcasting as a host and producer. In 2013, she ventured into stand-up comedy, quickly making a name for herself with appearances on Comedy Central, truTV, and Epix TV, and touring alongside mentors Rickey Smiley and Cedric the Entertainer.
Alongside her comedy career, Rita is also an emerging music artist known for singles like "Kamala," "Do the Hoochie Daddy," and "I Deserve to Be Alive." She blends her musical roots and comedic talent into her performances, creating a unique and engaging experience for her audiences. In addition to performing, she has contributed writing to major award shows, including the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards and Netflix’s *Stand Out: An LGBTQ Celebration*, earning multiple Writers Guild Award nominations. Proudly connected to her heritage, she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and continues to inspire with her dynamic blend of music, comedy, and storytelling.
