Edmond Hall

Edmond Hall was a standout jazz clarinetist with a warm, bluesy tone that made him a favorite in traditional jazz and Dixieland circles. Born in New Orleans in 1901, he came from a musical family—his brothers also became respected musicians. Hall’s career took off in the 1920s and ’30s, and he became known for his work with legends like Louis Armstrong (playing in his All Stars in the late 1940s) and leading his own groups, including the Edmond Hall Celeste Quartet. His playing blended New Orleans tradition with a swinging, forward-driving energy, whether in small combos or big bands.

Later in his career, Hall remained a sought-after live performer, as heard on releases like *Live Broadcasts From The Club Hangover In San Francisco 1954* and collaborations such as *Edmond Hall with Alan Elsdon’s Band*. Even his final recordings, like *Edmond Hall’s Last Concert*, showcase his enduring skill and passion. Though he passed away in 1967, his music—rooted in blues and brimming with soul—keeps his legacy alive for jazz lovers today.
