Emilio Sanchez

Emilio Sanchez (1921–1999) was a Cuban-born American artist celebrated for his distinctive architectural paintings and graphic lithographs. Born in Camagüey, Cuba, he moved to New York City in 1944 to pursue his artistic training at the Art Students League. Sanchez’s work is known for its striking use of light and shadow, focusing on the abstract geometry of buildings while stripping away unnecessary details to offer a subjective interpretation of architectural forms. His paintings often highlight features like balustrades, arched doorways, or balconies, blending a sense of naturalism with abstraction. Over his career, Sanchez exhibited widely across the Americas and Spain and became an American citizen in 1968. Today, his works are held in prestigious collections worldwide, continuing to inspire with their unique blend of Cuban heritage and New York urban influence.
