Delinquent Habits

Delinquent Habits, also known as Los Delinquentes, is an American hip hop group that emerged from Los Angeles, California, in the early 1990s. The group is known for pioneering a unique fusion of hip hop with Latin rhythms, which includes the incorporation of mariachi and cumbia samples in their beats — a groundbreaking blend that gave rise to the West Coast Latin hip hop sound. The original line-up consisted of lead rapper and vocalist Ivan "Ives Irie" Martin, David "Kemo the Blaxican" Thomas, and Alejandro "O.G. Style" Martinez as the DJ and turntablist. They soared to fame with their self-titled debut album "Delinquent Habits" which incorporated their first hit single, "Tres Delinquentes", and helped solidify their reputation with its release in 1996.

Over the years, Delinquent Habits released several albums while their lineup changed with Kemo the Blaxican departing for a solo career after their third album, "Merry Go Round" (2001). Nevertheless, the group persisted with Ives Irie and O.G. Style at the core, delivering albums such as "Freedom Band" (2003), "The Common Man" (2009), and "It Could Be Round Two" (2017), each of which contributed to their legacy by showcasing their evolution while maintaining the culturally rich essence of their sound. Delinquent Habits has remained an influential figure within the Latino hip hop community, representing the West Coast scene with their blend of smooth, bilingual lyricism, and distinctively eclectic rhythms, drawing fans across linguistic and cultural lines.
