Slaves, an American post-hardcore band originating from Sacramento, California, was formed in 2014. The group quickly established themselves with a sound marked by powerful vocals, intense guitar work, and an emotional palette ranging from defiant anthems to somber ballads. Fronted by lead vocalist Jonny Craig, known for his previous work with bands like Emarosa and Dance Gavin Dance, Slaves made a splash in the scene with their debut album "Through Art We Are All Equals," released in June 2014. The album set the tone for the band's exploration of personal struggles and societal issues.
Following their debut, Slaves continued to hone their sound and message with subsequent releases. "Routine Breathing," their second album, arrived in 2015, solidifying their presence in the genre with creative songwriting and a polished production. Their tireless efforts bore further fruit with the release of "Beautiful Death" in 2018. The album reflected the band's continual growth and was poised as their most ambitious work to date. While the band went through various lineup changes around Craig's lead, they remained productive, issuing "Revision," an EP in 2019, which featured reimagined tracks and gave fans deeper insight into the evolution of their sound. Alongside their primary work, the band has seen some of their popular tracks like "I'd Rather See Your Star Explode" remixed by artists such as Noirblvd and Wild Cards, showcasing the band's crossover appeal and the versatility of their music. Slaves' narrative in the post-hardcore scene is marked by resilience and an enduring commitment to their expressive musical roots.
