Ikue Mori

Ikue Mori has established herself as a prolific figure in the avant-garde music scene, recognized particularly for her innovative use of drum machines and electronics. Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1953, she moved to New York City in 1977 and soon became a key player at the epicenter of the city's experimental music community. Her career took a significant turn when she became the drummer for the seminal no-wave band DNA, alongside fellow members Arto Lindsay and Tim Wright.

After DNA disbanded in the early 1980s, Mori transitioned from traditional drums to electronic percussion and began crafting her own unique language of glitchy, ethereal soundscapes. Her rich discography showcases an array of solo works and collaborations with other esteemed artists. Notable releases like "Crustal Movement" and "Obelisk" display her fascination with textural sounds and electroacoustic composition, while her partnership with Julianna Barwick on "FRKWYS Vol. 6" highlights her ability to intersect with other genres and artists. A recipient of multiple honors, including the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, Ikue Mori continues to push the boundaries of electronic music and improvisational artistry, contributing significantly to the realms of modern experimental and avant-garde music.
