Erkki Lasonpalo

Erkki Lasonpalo is one of Finland's leading conductors of his generation, known for blending fluent technique with a natural communicative spirit. After studying violin and percussion at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, he turned to conducting under the mentorship of Finnish conducting guru Jorma Panula, later graduating with top honors. Erkki has conducted nearly all the major Finnish orchestras, including the Helsinki Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony, Turku and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestras, and many city orchestras across Finland. His career also encompasses considerable opera experience with Finnish National Opera and others, as well as international engagements such as with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

Erkki currently serves as chief conductor and artistic director of several ensembles, including the Saimaa Sinfonietta, St. Michel Strings, and the Lappeenranta City Orchestra, in addition to directing multiple music festivals like Heinävesi and Kemi. Originally a professional violinist and percussionist, he remains an active chamber musician with the Postiglione String Quartet. Erkki's dynamic conducting style and dedication have made him a respected figure in Finland's classical music scene and beyond.
