David Franklin Courtright is an LA-based singer, songwriter, musician, poet, writer, and baker originally from North Carolina and raised in Atlanta. He previously performed under the moniker Suno Deko but transitioned to releasing music under his own name in the early 2020s, a period marked by personal challenges including his father’s death and his own psychiatric hospitalization. This transition symbolizes a move toward greater personal and artistic intimacy in his work. His music blends tender, poetic songwriting with reflective and atmospheric soundscapes, drawing comparisons to chamber folk with ambient touches. Courtright’s debut album, *Brutal Tenderness*, showcases this evolution with songs like "feels," featuring Julianna Barwick’s ethereal vocals, as well as “in a garden of love” and “boy,” the latter noted for its minimalist, vulnerable approach centered on themes of nervousness and romantic longing. Raised in an inclusive church family, his Southern upbringing exposed him to diverse musical influences spanning Appalachian folk to hip hop, all of which inform his rich, emotive style.
