Susan Chan is a renowned pianist known for her thoughtful and sensitive performances. Born in Hong Kong, she holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University and MPhil and BA degrees from the University of Hong Kong. Her major piano teachers include György Sebök and Menahem Pressler. Chan is celebrated for her technical finesse and refinement, as noted by publications like The New York Concert Review and The New Yorker, which describe her as "a thoughtful musician and a sensitive player" and "an energetic advocate for contemporary music," respectively.
Susan Chan actively promotes music from Asia and by women composers, alongside traditional repertoire. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on four continents, including venues like Carnegie Hall and the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. Her discography includes critically acclaimed albums such as "Echoes of China" and the "East West Encounter" series, which feature a blend of Western and contemporary Asian composers. Currently, she serves as Professor of Music and Piano Area Coordinator at Portland State University, where she also directs the PSU Steinway Piano Series.
