Djet-X

Djet-X is a Haitian compas band that has etched its mark in the hearts of zouk and compas lovers around the world. The group, which came into prominence in the late 1970s, was founded by Frantz Courtois, Fred Paul, and George Loubert Chancy. Djet-X, named after a popular Haitian jet ski brand, was renowned for its energetic and rhythmic interpretations of compas music, a genre that melds African rhythms with Caribbean sounds.

The band gained significant popularity during the 1980s with a string of hits that resonated with the Haitian diaspora and lovers of Caribbean music alike. With songs like "Péyi Ya" and "Vanessa," they have captured stories of love, social issues, and the vibrancy of their culture. Their energetic live performances, as documented in "Live in New York," are testament to their prowess as entertainers. Even as the compas genre evolved, Djet-X retained a core fan base and continued to influence the music scene, adapting their sound to remain relevant with albums like "Vision (Le nouveau X)" which introduced a new generation to their timeless sound. They are remembered not only for their contributions to music but also for embodying the lively spirit of Haitian culture through their artistry.
