Joshua Barnhart

Joshua Barnhart is a multifaceted artist known both as a musician and a poet. Growing up in San Luis Obispo, California, Josh has a rich background in music, having been active as a touring musician and notably performing under the name Strange Pilgrim. This project explores themes of dislocation, social and political uncertainty, and a yearning for freedom, often connecting with nature in its lyrical content. Barnhart is also academically accomplished, holding a BA in English from UC Berkeley with a minor in Creative Writing and having completed an MFA in poetry at Oregon State University. Alongside music, their poetry delves into family history, identity, and experiences from the touring life. Currently based in Portland, Oregon, Josh enjoys writing poems and songs, wandering the woods, and embarking on long camping road trips.

Earlier in their career, Barnhart was involved as a drummer in the folk rock band Port O’Brien before moving on to solo work. As Strange Pilgrim, their music includes recent releases such as "Blue Eyes," "Dance with Me," and "Turn Out the Light," which showcase their reflective and atmospheric style.
