Caimin Gilmore is an Irish composer and double bassist known for his versatile, genre-fluid approach to music. He is a key member of the innovative new music group Crash Ensemble and has collaborated with a diverse range of artists including Lisa Hannigan, Dermot Kennedy, Damon Albarn, and the European ensemble s t a r g a z e, contributing to over 40 recordings. Gilmore’s debut album, *BlackGate* (released August 2025 via New Amsterdam Records and Dublin’s Ten Spot Records), showcases his unique blending of contemporary classical with elements of folk and pop, featuring collaborators like cellist Kate Ellis and harpist Lavinia Meijer. He also plays the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, adding textural depth to his compositions.
Beyond his composing and performing, Gilmore is active in collaborative projects such as the chamber folk group Sun Collective, and has toured extensively across the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Asia. He has also worked as an arranger for orchestras like the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. With a background spanning contemporary classical, folk, and pop, Gilmore's music invites listeners into a richly textured sound world that defies easy categorization, reflecting his belief in the creative power of cross-genre pollination.
