Kvelertak

Kvelertak, an explosive band hailing from Stavanger, Norway, has been melding the raw energies of black metal, punk rock, and hard rock since their formation in 2007. The six-member group, whose name translates to "Stranglehold" or "Chokehold" in English, burst onto the music scene with their self-titled debut album in 2010. Fronted by vocalist Ivar Nikolaisen, who joined the band in 2018 taking over from original frontman Erlend Hjelvik, Kvelertak is known for its high-octane live performances and a distinct style that incorporates the dark lyrical themes of black metal with melodic and anthemic rock influences.

Their discography showcases a band unafraid to evolve, while maintaining a signature sound characterized by aggression, melody, and an undercurrent of folklore and mythology. Following their critically acclaimed self-titled debut, Kvelertak continued to build their reputation with follow-up albums "Meir" (2013) and "Nattesferd" (2016), demonstrating a capacity to create music that is both ferocious and catchy. With the release of their latest album, "Splid," in 2020, the band has not only addressed themes of disharmony but has also experimented with expanding their musicality, collaborating with artists like Troy Sanders of Mastodon. In tracks like "Bråtebrann," "Crack of Doom," and the reflective "Endling," Kvelertak’s unabated energy and evolving sound invite listeners to partake in a thrilling, relentless, and deeply Scandinavian rock 'n' roll experience.
