Urban Dance Squad

Urban Dance Squad emerged from the Dutch city of Utrecht in the late 1980s, blending a diverse mix of genres like rock, hip-hop, funk, and ska to create a uniquely vibrant sound that helped pioneer the rap rock movement. The group, originally consisting of rapper Rudeboy Remmington, guitarist Tres Manos, bassist Silly Sil, drummer Magic Stick, and DJ DNA, quickly gained prominence with their energetic live performances and culturally eclectic music. Their distinct style broke down the barriers between genres, prefiguring the crossover appeal that would become prevalent in the '90s and beyond.

Their 1989 debut album, "Mental Floss for the Globe", is often regarded as their seminal work, producing hits such as "Deeper Shade of Soul" that epitomized their genre-melding approach. This album, along with their electrifying live performances, cemented their international reputation. Throughout the '90s, Urban Dance Squad continued to release albums like "Life 'n Perspectives of a Genuine Crossover" (1991) and "Persona Non Grata" (1994), which sustained their status as innovators in the rock and hip-hop fusion landscape. Noteworthy live recordings like "Artantica (Paris Live 1999)" and "Planet Ultra (New York Live 1997)" capture the high-octane energy the band brought to the stage, a testament to their ability to connect with audiences around the world. Despite their disbandment in 2000, Urban Dance Squad left a lasting legacy on the music scene, influencing a wave of bands that would take the rap-rock genre to new heights.
