Pieter Jan Leusink is a Dutch organist and conductor, best known for his work in conducting and recording a large portion of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Between 1999 and 2000, he conducted the Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands in a groundbreaking series of recordings, completing the entire set of Bach's 198 sacred cantatas. This massive undertaking, often referred to as one of the most significant recorded musical projects of the 20th century, showcases Leusink's extraordinary capabilities as a conductor and his profound understanding of Bach's music.
While the majority of Leusink's work is focused on Bach's cantatas and sacred music, his repertoire extends to other classical composers such as Joseph Haydn, as evidenced by his recording of Haydn's Symphony No. 86. Leusink's performances are often praised for their depth, nuance, and emotional resonance, offering a unique perspective on some of the most celebrated works in classical music.
