Käbi Laretei

Käbi Laretei was an acclaimed Estonian-Swedish classical pianist known for her expressive performances and deep connection to 20th-century repertoire. Born in Estonia, she later moved to Sweden, where she built a prominent career as both a concert pianist and a cultural figure. Käbi was especially noted for her interpretations of modern composers like Paul Hindemith and her ability to bring intellectual depth and emotional nuance to her performances.

Outside the concert hall, Laretei also had a unique role in the film world: she was briefly married to legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman and performed piano pieces featured in several of his films, including Autumn Sonata and Face to Face.
