Hello Sailor

Formed in the vibrant music scene of Auckland, New Zealand, during the 1970s, Hello Sailor quickly cemented itself as a cornerstone of the country's rock landscape. The band, which originally comprised Graham Brazier (vocals, harmonica), Harry Lyon (guitar, vocals), and Dave McArtney (guitar, vocals) along with Lisle Kinney (bass) and Ricky Ball (drums), blended rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, and a touch of punk to craft a sound that was both distinctly Kiwi and universally appealing.

Throughout their career, Hello Sailor navigated the turbulent waters of the music industry with a swashbuckling spirit. They released several influential albums starting with their self-titled debut 'Hello Sailor' in 1977, which included perennial New Zealand hits like "Gutter Black" and "Blue Lady". Despite experiencing various lineup changes and hiatuses over the years, the group continued to produce music that resonated with fans across decades. Their later albums, such as 'Pacifica Amour' and 'Surrey Crescent Moon', showcased their maturity and evolving artistry without losing the band's original essence. 'Shipshape and Bristol Fashion' and 'Never Fade Away' offered both new material and nostalgic reworkings, securing Hello Sailor's legacy as stalwarts of Kiwi rock. Sadly, with the passing of Brazier in 2015, New Zealand lost a music legend, but the band's influence endures through their rich catalogue, marked by their soulful storytelling and indelible melodies.
