Atlanta Rhythm Section, often abbreviated as ARS, is a Southern rock band that hails from the rich musical landscape of Atlanta, Georgia. The group was formed in 1970 by a collective of talented musicians who had previously done session work at the famous Studio One recording facility in Doraville, Georgia. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, Atlanta Rhythm Section enjoyed considerable success, producing a string of hits that included "So in to You," "Imaginary Lover," "Doraville," "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight," and their rendition of the spooky classic "Spooky."
ARS was part of the Southern rock scene that included contemporaries like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band, although their sound tended to be more polished and radio-friendly. Their approach blended rock, pop, and jazz influences, resulting in a smooth, melodic rock sound that earned them a dedicated following and substantial airplay. Over the years, ARS underwent various lineup changes but continued to record and tour. Despite the ebbs and flows of the music industry, the band has stayed true to its roots, as displayed in recent releases such as "Time Machine" and "Partly Plugged." They remain a testament to the enduring appeal of Southern rock and continue to resonate with audiences both old and new through live performances and recorded works.
