The Danse Society

The Danse Society is a gothic rock band that originated from the UK's post-punk landscape in the early 1980s. With a lineup featuring Steve Rawlings (vocals), Paul Nash (guitar), Lyndon Scarfe (keyboards), Tim Wright (bass), and Paul Gilmartin (drums), they carved out a unique sound that blended dark, moody atmospherics with synthesizer-driven melodies and a strong danceable beat. Their music often explored themes of existential angst, romantic yearning, and societal issues, wrapped in layers of haunting, ethereal production.

After their initial success with albums like "Seduction" (1982) and "Heaven is Waiting" (1983), which included the hit single "Somewhere," The Danse Society became an influential part of the gothic scene alongside contemporaries like The Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus. Despite disbanding in 1987, the band's music continued to resonate with fans. They reformed in the 2010s with a revised lineup, maintaining their legacy and appealing to a new generation of goth and post-punk enthusiasts. Celebrating their rich history, the band released a series of compilations, "40 Years of Danse" Volumes 1-3 and "EXTENDE" parts 1-3, symbolizing four decades of passion, artistry, and dance-worthy dark rock.
