Penetration is a British punk rock band that originated from Ferryhill in County Durham, England. Formed in 1976, the band first gained attention with their debut single, "Don't Dictate," which has since become an anthem of the punk era. Penetration's initial line-up consisted of Pauline Murray on vocals, Neale Floyd on guitar, Gary Chaplin on guitar, Robert Blamire on bass, and Gary Smallman on drums. Their sound was characterized by its raw energy, melodic guitar lines, and Pauline Murray's powerful vocal delivery, which set them apart in a predominantly male-driven genre.
The band released their first album, "Moving Targets," in 1978 to critical acclaim, which contained hits like "Life's a Gamble" and the title track, "Moving Targets." They continued to make waves in the punk scene with their follow-up album, "Coming Up for Air" in 1979, further cementing their reputation for thought-provoking lyrics and dynamic live performances. Unfortunately, internal tensions and the pressures of the music industry led to Penetration's disbandment in 1980. Despite their brief initial run, the band left a lasting impression, and they reunited in the early 2000s to the delight of fans new and old. Their live album "Live 19789" captures the raw energy of their early days, and their 2015 release, "Resolution," marked a significant return to form with fresh material that maintained the band's original punk ethos while showing a matured perspective.
