Kant Kino is a Norwegian electro-industrial project that has solidified its presence in the dark electronic music scene with a combination of relentless EBM (Electronic Body Music) beats and harsh, distorted vocals. The band was formed in 2008 by the duo of Lars Madsen and Kenneth Fredstie. The name "Kant Kino" itself is a nod to a famous Berlin cinema, reflecting the group's fascination with German culture and electronic music heritage. Their sound is characterized by aggressive rhythms, dark melodic hooks, and a fervent homage to the early days of EBM and industrial music, with influences ranging from Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb to harder industrial acts.
The duo gained recognition in the underground music circuit with their debut album "We Are Kant Kino - You Are Not," which was released in 2010, establishing their reputation for producing authentic and hard-hitting electronic music. Over the years, Kant Kino has impressively built on their initial success, dropping a succession of well-received releases, including the full-length "Father Worked in Industry" and its bonus tracks version, showcasing a matured sound and an expanded exploration into themes of labour, industry, and personal history. The tracks from their "Kopfkino" release serve as an excellent showcase of their sonic evolution, blending complex layers of synth with relentless EBM energy. Notably, Kant Kino has also demonstrated their remixing prowess with releases like "Matrix: Reb00ted - The Kant Kino Guerrilla - Zion (Ebm) Warfare [01]," where they rework tracks with their signature uncompromising style. Through their vibrant discography and their compelling live performances, Kant Kino has firmly established themselves as stalwarts of the modern EBM and industrial scene.
