Tylman Susato

Tylman Susato was a Renaissance composer, instrumentalist, and music publisher who lived in the 16th century. Born around 1510-1515, he made his mark in Antwerp, where he established one of the first music printing businesses in the Low Countries in 1543. Susato wasn't just a businessman though - he was also a talented musician who played in the Antwerp town band and composed his own works.

Susato's most famous composition is probably "The Danserye," a collection of popular dances he published in 1551. As a publisher, he championed the works of Flemish composers and helped put the Low Countries on the map as a center for music printing. Susato led quite an interesting life, even dabbling in diplomacy later on. He moved around a bit in his later years, heading to Sweden where records of him exist until at least 1570.
