Pastor J. A. Adelakun, popularly known as "Ayewa," is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, and televangelist born on June 12, 1949, in Saki, Oyo State. He was raised in a Muslim family but embraced Christianity, being baptized in 1972 at the Christ Apostolic Church. Prior to his full-time music career, he trained as an electrical engineer and served in the Nigerian Army from 1968 until 1982, during which he started his gospel ministry within the military. In 1982, he retired from the army to devote himself entirely to gospel music, founding the "Ayewa International Gospel Singers." Over the years, Pastor Adelakun has released more than 30 albums, with notable works including "Amona tete maa bo" and many recent songs like "Jesu Jinde" and "Mo Fe Ma Gbohun Re." His ministry extends beyond music, focusing on soul-winning and charitable efforts such as supporting orphans, widows, and providing education for many.
Known for his deep commitment to spreading the gospel and uplifting the less privileged, Pastor Adelakun has become a respected figure in Nigerian gospel music. He is married to Mrs. Clara O. Adelakun, and they have several children, all university graduates. His long-standing career, which began in the mid-1970s, has earned him awards such as the "Evergreen Award" at the Crystal Awards in 2014, highlighting his enduring impact on gospel music in Nigeria.
