Timmy Commerford, also known as Tim Commerford, is an American musician and songwriter, best known for his roles as the bassist and backing vocalist for the rock band Rage Against the Machine, as well as for the supergroup Audioslave. His aggressive playing style and deep, heavy bass lines have been a driving force behind the politically charged rock anthems that both bands are known for.
Born on February 26, 1968, in Irvine, California, Commerford grew up in an environment that nurtured his interest in music. He joined Rage Against the Machine in the early 1990s, along with vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. Together, they released a string of critically acclaimed albums, characterized by their blend of funk, metal, and hip-hop, paired with revolutionary lyrical content. After Rage Against the Machine disbanded in the early 2000s, Commerford continued to collaborate with some of his bandmates in Audioslave, which featured former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Aside from his well-known groups, Commerford has also been involved in side projects such as Prophets of Rage and Future User, further showcasing his versatility and passion for pushing the boundaries of his craft.
