Sweet Emma Barrett

Sweet Emma Barrett was a legendary New Orleans pianist and singer who played a pivotal role in the development of jazz. Born in 1897, she began playing piano at a young age and quickly became known for her unique style, which blended traditional New Orleans jazz with elements of ragtime and blues. Barrett performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Sidney Bechet. She also led her own band, Sweet Emma Barrett and Her New Orleans Music, which toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Barrett's music was praised for its infectious rhythms, soulful vocals, and virtuosic piano playing. She continued to perform until her death in 1983, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential and beloved jazz musicians of all time.
