Nilima Sen was a renowned Rabindrasangeet singer born on April 28, 1928 in Kolkata, India. At the age of six, her family moved to Shantiniketan, where she received her education and completed a diploma in Classical Music and Rabindra Sangeet. Sen began her singing career early, performing on All India Radio and recording her first disc at just 16 years old.
Throughout her life, Sen made significant contributions to Rabindrasangeet. She founded the music school "Surangama" and later joined Sangit Bhavana as a faculty member. Sen performed across India and internationally, including in Bangladesh, the UK, US, Burma, and Malaysia. Her distinctive voice, particularly suited to conveying sadness, brought songs like "Chokher jaler laglo joar" and "Aha tomar sange" to life. Sen passed away on June 28, 1996, leaving behind a rich legacy in Indian classical music.
