Rob Thomas is an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the longtime lead vocalist of the rock band Matchbox Twenty. Rising to mainstream fame in the late 1990s, he helped define that era of radio-friendly alternative rock with his distinctive, raspy voice and emotionally direct songwriting. Outside the band, Thomas also built a successful solo career and became widely recognized for his high-profile collaboration with Santana on the Grammy-winning hit “Smooth.”
