Zoltán Vásárhelyi was a Hungarian conductor and music educator born in 1900 in Kecskemét, Hungary. He played a significant role in promoting and preserving Hungarian choral music, particularly works by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Vásárhelyi led several prominent choirs, including the Hungarian Army Male Chorus and the Hungarian Radio and Television Chorus. He was known for his interpretations of Hungarian folk music arrangements and his collaborations with major composers of his time.
Vásárhelyi's career was closely tied to the musical life of Kecskemét, where he conducted premieres of several Kodály works. He also taught at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, contributing to the development of choral conducting education in Hungary. Vásárhelyi's recordings, especially of Hungarian folk-inspired choral works, remain important documents of 20th-century Hungarian music performance practice.
