Roberto Balconi

Roberto Balconi was a renowned Italian countertenor celebrated for his interpretations of early Italian music, particularly the works of Monteverdi, Handel, and Caccini. Born in Milan, he studied singing under esteemed vocal instructors including Evelyn Tubb in England and Paolo Vaglieri in Milan. Balconi's career spanned a variety of significant performances and collaborations, including roles in Monteverdi's "Incoronazione di Poppea" and Handel's "Semele". He was also featured in several notable recordings, such as Handel's "Italian Cantatas" and Caccini's "Amarilli, Le Nuove Musiche 1601". Sadly, Roberto Balconi passed away in 2025 following a lengthy illness, leaving behind a legacy as one of the leading countertenors of his generation.
