Pop Smoke

Bashar Barakah Jackson, known professionally as Pop Smoke, was a prominent figure in the Brooklyn drill music scene, known for his distinctive deep voice and incorporation of UK drill's dark, trap-influenced beats. He was born on July 20, 1999, in Brooklyn, New York, and his rapid rise to fame began with his breakout single "Welcome to the Party" in 2019, which became a summer anthem in New York and garnered widespread attention. As a central figure in bringing the sound of Brooklyn drill to a wider audience, Pop Smoke's career was marked by his ability to blend gritty street tales with catchy hooks, creating a sound that resonated both locally and internationally.

Tragically, Pop Smoke's life and burgeoning career were cut short when he was murdered during a home invasion in February 2020. Despite his untimely death at the young age of 20, his legacy persisted through posthumous releases that showcased his undeniable talent. His debut studio album "Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon," released in July 2020, was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The project featured hits such as "For The Night" and "Mood Swings," cementing his impact on hip-hop music. His second album, "Faith," continued to build on his influential sound, ensuring that even in death, Pop Smoke's musical influence would continue to reverberate within the industry.
