Acretongue

Acretongue is a solo electronic music project from Johannesburg, South Africa, led by Nico Janse van Rensburg, also known as Nico J. The project began rising around 2003, with early self-released material, followed by its first official album release in 2011 after signing with Dependent Records for the album "Strange Cargo." Nico J is not only the musician behind Acretongue but also a skilled graphic designer, responsible for the visual design of his albums, including "Strange Cargo" and the highly acclaimed "Ghost Nocturne," which was released in 2019. Acretongue is noted for its dark, hypnotic soundscapes and introspective lyrics, often drawing inspiration from personal experiences and observations.

Acretongue's music is deeply rooted in the electro-industrial genre, reflecting influences from iconic bands like Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and Skinny Puppy. Despite a niche audience in South Africa, where the industrial and dark electronic music scene has diminished over the years, Acretongue has managed to garner international attention for its captivating and emotional sound. Nico J's dedication to both his music and visual art ensures that Acretongue's releases are as much a treat for the eyes as they are for the ears.
