Quasi
Quasi is an indie rock duo from Portland, Oregon, formed in the early 1990s by multi-instrumentalists Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss. Known for their gritty, lo-fi sound and sharp, politically charged lyrics, Quasi has built a cult following with their mix of distorted keyboards, propulsive drumming, and off-kilter melodies. Both Coomes and Weiss have extensive resumes—Coomes has played with Heatmiser and Elliott Smith, while Weiss is also known for her work with Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag, and The Jicks.
The band’s discography showcases their evolution over the years, from early releases like R&B Transmogrification and Featuring "Birds" to the more expansive, raw sounds of albums like Mole City and Breaking the Balls of History. Despite various shifts in the indie rock landscape, Quasi has remained a fiercely independent and creatively ambitious band, praised for their unique chemistry and consistently thoughtful songwriting.
