Gare du Nord, an eclectic Dutch-Belgian band, merges the worlds of jazz, funk, soul, and dance into an unique blend of groove-laden soundscapes. The core members of the group, Dutch songwriter/producer Ferdi Lancee and Belgian producer/instrumentalist Barend Fransen, embarked on their musical journey together in 2001 with the release of their debut album, "(In Search of) Excellounge." Their partnership flourished as they delved into the exploration of contemporary European jazz with an electronic twist, carving out a distinctive niche in the genre.
Over the years, Gare du Nord has gathered a devoted fanbase, enticed by their innovative approach to music and their ability to infuse atmospheric jazz with a modern, urban sensibility. Among their most significant projects, "Sex 'N' Jazz," initially released as an EP in 2007 and later expanded into a full album, stands out as one of their breakthrough works, combining provocative lyrics with sensual rhythms. Their subsequent albums, such as "Love for Lunch" (2009) and "Lilywhite Soul" (2011), continued to build upon their lush, cinematic sound. The band's ability to evolve over time while maintaining their artistic integrity is further exemplified in releases like "Rendez-Vous 8:02" (2012) and "Play" (2010), which showcase their prowess in crafting intricate musical narratives that are both avant-garde and accessible. Despite lineup changes, Gare du Nord remains a compelling act, involving skilled musicians and vocalists who contribute to the band's dynamic performances and recording sessions, most recently demonstrated in their introspective and sophisticated offering, "Almost There" (2020).
