Benjamin Juarez Echenique is a renowned music conductor and scholar, born on July 17, 1951, in Mexico City. With over four decades of experience in the arts, he has conducted orchestras in various countries, including being the first Latin American to conduct an orchestra in China in 1984. His educational background includes studying at the National School of Music and the National University of Mexico, as well as obtaining a Master of Fine Arts in Music from the California Institute of the Arts. He has held significant positions such as principal guest conductor of the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, associate conductor of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, and music director of the Gran Festival de la Ciudad de Mexico. Additionally, he founded the early music group Angelicum of Puebla, focusing on 17th-century music from Puebla's Cathedral Archives.
Benjamin Juarez Echenique has also been involved in numerous recordings, including works by Baroque Mexican masters, which earned him a Latin Grammy nomination in 2001. He served as General Director of Mexico's National Arts Center (CENART) from 2006 to 2009 and later became the Dean of the Boston University College of Fine Arts. His recent releases include a variety of classical and Baroque music albums, such as "Piramidal: Barroco hispanoamericano" and "México barroco, Puebla" series, showcasing his dedication to preserving and promoting Mexican musical heritage.
