Deodato

Eumir Deodato de Almeida, known mononymously as Deodato, is an illustrious Brazilian composer, arranger, and pianist, famed for his adept blend of jazz, funk, and Latin music with classical tones. Born on June 22, 1942, Deodato moved into the international spotlight in the 1970s, and by the time he released his version of Richard Strauss’s "Also Sprach Zarathustra" – which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance – he was a household name among enthusiasts of jazz and popular music.

Throughout his extensive career, Deodato has demonstrated a mastery over a broad range of styles, creatively integrating bossa nova with jazz and funk elements. His dynamic work with the 1964 album "Samba Nova Concepção" signaled a remarkable capacity for innovation in the bossa nova genre, and this inventiveness has been a constant throughout his discography, including the 1973 hit "Super Strut". His more recent works, like the lush musical tapestries found in "Symphonic Jobim" or the energizing live performances in "Ao Vivo No Rio", showcase the enduring vibrancy and adaptability of his music. A prodigious collaborator and producer, Deodato's impact on international music is profound, having worked with a multitude of artists and influenced many by marrying classical sophistication with contemporary rhythms.
