Drottnar

Drottnar is a pioneering force in the realm of avant-garde black metal, known for their unique blend of ferocious extreme music with unconventional rhythmic structures and a militant visual aesthetic. Hailing from Fredrikstad, Norway, the band was initially formed in 1996 under the name Vitality. They later adopted the moniker Drottnar, where their musical evolution took a distinct turn towards the complex and technical side of black metal, infused with a philosophical and spiritual depth.

The band's discography charts a course through a maturing sound and evolving conceptuality. Starting with "Welterwerk," released in 2006, Drottnar introduced their distinctive take on black metal that includes intricate drumming patterns and a staunch grip on dissonance, bound with themes of theology and modern dystopia. This was followed by "Stratum" in 2012, which further cemented their standing as innovators in the genre. The "Monolith" series, comprising four parts released between 2019 and 2020, showcased the band at their most explorative. The series is an audacious undertaking, each installment serving as a separate chapter in a grand, overarching narrative. Drottnar's continued push for progression both thematically and technically within these releases keeps them at the forefront of the genre, ensuring their place in the annals of black metal as torchbearers for innovation and introspection.
