Minoru Miki (1930-2011) was a visionary Japanese composer and cultural bridge-builder who blended traditional Japanese instruments with Western classical flair. Born in Tokushima, he co-founded the groundbreaking ensemble Pro Musica Nipponia in 1964, becoming a driving force in revitalizing and reimagining Japan’s musical heritage for modern audiences. Known for his infectious energy and collaborative spirit, Miki wrote over 100 works featuring instruments like the koto, shakuhachi, and pipa – you can hear this fusion in releases like *Time for Marimba* or his soulful *Ballades for Koto Solo*.
