Josiah David Swim

Josiah David Swim is a singer-songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia, whose music weaves together elements of 70s folk, 90s acoustic rock, and 2000s alternative into a uniquely indie-folk sound. He describes his music as folk with an edge, blending simple, heartfelt acoustic arrangements with the dynamic energy you’d expect from alt and indie rock. His songs pulse with emotion, drawing on personal experiences—like the loss of a close friend, which inspired him to begin writing and recording in 2019. Despite having no prior experience, Josiah taught himself the skills needed to produce his own music, culminating in the release of his debut album, “For The Trees,” in Fall 2023—a project he says felt like a form of graduation, both for his craft and his personal growth.

Josiah’s approach is refreshingly hands-on and deeply personal—he writes, records, and performs his own material, valuing the freedom and authenticity that comes with self-production. With recent tracks like “shores,” “marigold,” “Slieve League,” and “Snowdonia,” he continues to evolve his sound and inspire wanderlust through his lyrical storytelling. His sophomore album, “Elevens,” is set for release in Fall 2024, promising even more of the soulful, energetic folk that has become his signature.
