OM

Om is a heavy, meditative duo (originally a trio) formed in 2003 by bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius, both former members of the legendary stoner/doom metal band Sleep. Known for their hypnotic, mantra-like sound, Om blends elements of doom metal, drone, and Middle Eastern influences to create a spiritual, trance-inducing musical experience. Their name, taken from the sacred syllable in Indian religions, reflects the band's deep interest in themes like mysticism, ritual, and religious texts.

Om’s debut album, Variations on a Theme (2005), set the tone for their minimalist yet thunderous approach, often consisting of long, slowly evolving tracks. Over the years, the lineup shifted—Hakius left in 2008 and was replaced by Emil Amos (from Grails)—and the band began incorporating more instrumentation and global textures into their music. Albums like Pilgrimage (2007) and Advaitic Songs (2012) expanded their sonic palette while maintaining that meditative core. Om has built a devoted following for their immersive live shows and genre-defying sound that feels as much like a spiritual journey as it does a musical one.
