Noordkaap was a seminal Belgian rock band that made significant waves in their native music scene throughout the 1990s. Originally formed in 1990 by frontman Stijn Meuris, Lars Van Bambost, Erik Sterckx, Nico Van Calster, and Anton Janssens, the group was the victorious act in Humo's Rock Rally, a respected rock contest in Belgium, which thrust them into the spotlight. They were known widely for their emotive lyrics in Flemish and their straightforward, powerful rock sound.
Characterised by an energetic and melancholic mix of rock and alternative music, Noordkaap quickly gained popularity with their debut album "Feest in de stad" in 1991. However, it was their hit "Ik Hou Van U" that became a classic in Belgian music culture and remains an enduring favorite. Their later works such as "Programma '96" and "Alles Moet Weg" cemented their position in the Belgian music canon. Despite the band's disbandment in the late ‘90s, their music has continued to resonate. The group briefly reunited for a series of concerts in 2020, much to the delight of their enduring fanbase.
