Richard Tognetti

Richard Tognetti is an esteemed Australian violinist, conductor, and composer whose remarkable musicianship has captivated audiences internationally. Born on August 4, 1965, in Canberra, Tognetti studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and went on to further his skills at the Bern Conservatory with the revered violinist Igor Ozim.

In 1989, Tognetti became the artistic director and leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), a role in which he has become widely recognized for his innovative and dynamic approach to programming and performance. Under his leadership, the ACO has been transformed into one of the world's most adventurous and exciting ensembles for classical music. Tognetti's work with the orchestra over the years has been characterized by critically acclaimed performances and recordings that often blend the boundaries of classical and contemporary music.

His role extends beyond conducting to include arrangements, compositions, and performances, both as a soloist and a collaborative artist, which have won him a number of awards and accolades, including Australian National Living Treasure status and the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO). Tognetti's recordings frequently reflect his versatility and his commitment to exploring a diverse repertoire, as evidenced by his forays into the symphonic works of Beethoven and Brahms, as well as his exploration of contemporary scores such as the soundtrack for the film "River." Tognetti continues to lead the ACO with a spirit of innovation, an unyielding quest for excellence, and a dedication to bringing classical music to a broader audience.
