Mamer is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Xinjiang, an autonomous region in northwestern China. Born into a large family, he grew up immersed in traditional Kazakh folk music and learned to play instruments like the dombyra, a two-stringed lute. Mamer later moved to Beijing, where he formed the band IZ and gained recognition in the underground music scene. His music blends traditional Kazakh elements with contemporary styles, earning him comparisons to artists like Lou Reed. In 2009, Mamer released the album "Eagle" on Real World Records, which brought him international attention.
