Negros Tou Moria—also known as Black Morris—is a genre-blending rapper and musician born to Ghanaian parents in the Athenian district of Ampelokipoi and raised in the tight-knit but often overlooked neighborhood of Kypseli. His real names are cited as both Kofi Ansong and Kevin Wessun, reflecting the complex identity that fuels much of his artistry. From his early days alongside Greek rap legend MC Taki Chan, Negros Tou Moria has carved out a unique voice in Athens’ music scene, pioneering a style he calls “trabetiko”—a fusion of rebetiko, Greece’s raw folk protest music, and modern trap beats.
Awarded Best New Artist at the Thessaloniki Hip Hop Festival in 2014, he’s since built a reputation for fearless lyricism and inventive production, using Greek-language bars to address the challenges faced by migrants and marginalized communities. His provocative stage presence—often dressed in traditional Greek attire—coupled with sharp social commentary, has made him a defiant voice for Athens’ multicultural youth and a standout figure in contemporary Greek hip-hop. Recent releases like *MAVRI ELLADA* and *TO THRASITATO EP* continue to push boundaries, blending hard-hitting beats with the soulful storytelling of his dual heritage.
