Cool Whip is a New York City-based rock project that came together during the challenging times of the pandemic in late 2020. It started when Joe Denardo (known for Growing and Ornament) encouraged Dan Wise (of Honey, Psychic Ills, and Kill Me Tomorrow) to begin working on some songs Dan had set aside. Over a few years and through changes in band members, Cool Whip developed a distinct rock ’n’ roll sound showcased on their album *Flame In My Heart*. This record mixes straight-ahead rockers like “Trapt” with more psychedelic, slow-burning tracks such as the title song and includes a cover of John Cale’s “Emily” — all carrying a vibe that pays homage to NYC’s resilient spirit.
Their music blends gritty rock energy with atmospheric moments, making Cool Whip’s sound both raw and textured. The project reflects influences from its members’ diverse backgrounds and captures a moment of creative response to difficult times, ultimately delivering a fresh and engaging rock experience rooted in the New York scene.
