Tex Ritter

Tex Ritter, born Woodward Maurice Ritter on January 12, 1905, in Murvaul, Texas, was an iconic figure in country music and Hollywood westerns. He began his career as a student at the University of Texas, where he formed a group called "The Tex Ritter Band." Before long, Ritter's deep, resonant voice and cowboy persona caught the attention of New York City's music scene, which led to performances on Broadway and in radio. Inspired by folk and cowboy music, Ritter moved to Hollywood during the 1930s where he transitioned into film, starring in numerous Westerns.

His illustrious recording career included numerous hits, among them the timeless "High Noon," the theme from the 1952 film of the same name, which became one of his signature songs and earned him significant acclaim. Ritter's contribution to country music was profound, being one of the first artists to become a major star on the silver screen as well as the music stage. He was a pioneering figure who helped to bridge the gap between country music and popular culture. A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the father of actor John Ritter, Tex Ritter left an indelible legacy upon his passing on January 2, 1974, both through his recordings and his influence on the genre of country music. His rich baritone and cowboy image are remembered through collections such as "The Songs of the West," "Country Superstars: The Tex Ritter Hits Anthology," and "American Legend," ensuring his music endures for generations to come.
