The Safri Boys, founded in 1990 by Balwinder Safri, were a pioneering force in the UK bhangra scene. Safri, born in Punjab in 1958, had been active in the British bhangra music world since 1980 before forming the band. The group made waves with their energetic blend of traditional Punjabi folk music and modern beats, releasing popular tracks like "O Chan Mere Makhna," "Pao Bhangra," and "Gal Sun Kuriye".
Balwinder Safri, the frontman and creative force behind the band, sadly passed away on July 26, 2022, at the age of 63. During their active years, The Safri Boys released several albums including "Legends," "Showtime," and "48K- Tu Hoor Sohniye," leaving a lasting impact on the Punjabi music industry and earning Safri the nickname "Bhangra Star".
