Walter Pinheiro de Queiroz Júnior, known simply as Walter Queiroz, is a Brazilian singer, composer, and guitarist born on October 18, 1944, in Salvador, Brazil. He comes from a family with a rich artistic background, being the nephew of writer José de Queiroz Júnior and composer Nilo Queiroz, and cousin to saxophonist Cacau Queiroz and composer Fred Falcão. Walter began his musical journey early, forming the Abaeté Samba Trio at just fourteen years old, which performed on television and in clubs during the 1960s. His first composed song, "Compreensão," earned second place in a local music festival in 1961. Besides his music career, he studied law and political science, including a stint at Harvard University, but eventually left law to focus entirely on his musical pursuits. Among his contributions, he authored the anthem of Esporte Clube Vitória, a famous Brazilian football club.
Walter Queiroz's music blends traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary sounds, and he gained recognition in the mid-1970s with hits such as "Filho da Bahia."
