Zoltán Rácz

Zoltán Rácz, born in Budapest in 1960, is a renowned Hungarian percussionist and conductor. He began his musical journey in 1967, initially studying piano and later percussion. Rácz graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 1983 and went on to found the Amadinda Percussion Group in 1984, which has become one of the most respected percussion ensembles globally. As a soloist, he has performed and recorded numerous works, including Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, which he has performed in various European cities like London, Berlin, and Venice. Rácz has also served as the principal timpanist of the Budapest Festival Orchestra from 1992 to 1996.

In addition to his work with Amadinda, Rácz has been a key figure in promoting contemporary music. He has been the music director of the UMZE Chamber Ensemble since 2006 and has conducted numerous festivals and concerts worldwide. Rácz has also collaborated with prominent composers and artists like John Cage, Peter Eötvös, and György Ligeti. His contributions to music education are significant, as he has been a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music since 1990.
